Milford Hall CC V Penkridge CC
Penkridge travelled to the League leaders confident following a run of victories. However Milford’s success is no fluke and with a side containing 4 or 5 district/county players this was going to be a tough nut to crack. Batting first Milford looked a classy outfit with good running between the wickets and good shots, however Penkridge in turn gave a good display with the ball restricting the first 4 pairs to 68 for 5 after 16 overs. The final Milford pair put on 41 runs the highest partnership against our attack. The pick of the bowlers was Liam, who bowled a fine display of swing bowling taking 2 for 10 of his 3 overs. Milford 309 for 7 (Net 274). After a solid start from Connor and Ollie Penkridge were losing wickets too quickly and after 8 overs the score was 19 for 6. Wolverhampton CC V Penkridge CC (Cup)
After a rain delayed start Penkridge batted first. The first pair faced Wolverhampton’s County bowler who was a bit too quick for Jack and James. Jack retiring hurt after being hit in the ribs. Although the pairs fought hard against a strong Wolverhampton team who had demolished Milford in the previous round the total of 269 for 10 (Net 219) was always going to be too small a total to defend.. Liam and Kieren adding 29 for 1 in their 4 overs and Michael and Jake 20 for 1 were the pick of the batting. The team took to the field with some determination with both Connor and Ollie taking early wickets and at one stage Wolverhampton were 31 for 3 and then at 45 for 5 there was a glimmer of hope, however the last two batting pairs took command and pushed the score to 293 for 5 Net 268. Pick of the bowlers Ollie with 2 wickets and Kieren 2 for 4 off his two overs.
Result Wolverhampton won by 49 runs
Although these last two games against Milford and Wolverhampton have been disappointing results, the team have not given up and have battled to the last ball. This has also made the players and the coaches aware of the improvement needed to reach the standards being set by Milford and Wolverhampton. Something for all of us to work at.
